Some people believe that nurses should not have to pay for their nursing degrees.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
(From IELTS Simon website)
It is sometimes argued that students in universities of nursing should be exempt from tuition fees. While people may think that nurses are one of the most important workers in our society so that they do not need to pay for their tuition, I still disagree with this statement, for the reasons described below.
Student nurses should not be exempt from the tuition fees the universities of nursing charge because they might not be a nurse after graduating. Some other jobs, such as flight attendants and private carers working for affluent families, might still need the skills they learn from school. They can still earn money with the skills they learn at the universities of nursing. For example, one of my friends, working as a flight attendant, paid all the loans she borrowed to study at a nursing school three months after she graduated from a nursing college. It is not that difficult for nursing students to find high-paid jobs and pay for their loans after graduating.
Furthermore, students should always pay for their learning and the services from the universities. Universities of nursing should pay for tutors and administration workers. They might also need to buy a huge number of new equipment and medical devices to let students use and learn with. Moreover, they might need to pay some private hospitals to have internship programmes for students, from which students can learn how to work as a nurse in real situations. The students are the ones who receive these services so that they should pay for it.
In conclusion, I believe that free tuition is not a good way because not every student in nursing schools will be a nurse and students should really pay for the services they receive from the universities. (290 words, band 6.5-7)
